Halloween Banner for Etsy

Here is a sweet vintage style Banner for an Etsy shop. Lot's of shop owners like to change things around a bit during the holidays, so I decided to make a banner for Halloween. I'm working on more as we speak. These of course will be available on my own Etsy shop, which you can get to by clicking the button to your right.

I could hardly wait to get this new tag posted. I've been holding this vintage graphic from The Graphics Fairy for so long, just waiting to create something from it.

Soon, I will get this printed and trimmed into a gift tag for Halloween. I'll add a grungy, crinkled seam binding ribbon for tying...which I think will make the appeal even better.

Halloween Tags

Wow, it's been many weeks since I posted on my blog! Glad to be back in the swing of things.

I just finished these Halloween gift tags. They were so fun to make...I'm also sharing these on "Brag Monday" at The Graphics Fairy Blog!!  www.graphicsfairy.blogspot.com

All of the vintage graphics I obtained from Karen's (Graphic Fairy) blog. I've been wanting to create something from this adorable Ellen Clapsaddle Halloween postcard for a while. The original vintage graphic was in vivid color, but I decided to make it black and white for this tag. I made it into a png image so that I could put a different background to it....I am very pleased how it turned out. I also antiqued the edges of the picture itself with brown stampers ink and pasted it on an orange, pearl cardstock.

The other tag with the crow, (graphics also obtained from The Graphics Fairy), I made into png files and assembled them into a neat design. The crow has a drop shadow to make it stand out.

The tags measure 2" x 2-3/4" and have a generous 8-1/2" double, black cotton string to tie onto your package.

DIGITAL GRAPHIC

Some of the wonderful names of Jesus!

This is a 7" x 7" digital graphic intended to be printed and adhere to a block of wood. I have made many hand painted signs and when I began creating digital designs my cousin had suggested that I do this. I know that this is is popular with a lot of companies that manufacture home goods / decor.

The design, here, was inspired by a poster that my son has on his bedroom door. It has more of the many names of Jesus on it and I had been wanting to make David some decorations to put up in his apartment. I have a few ideas, all of them inspirations from the Bible. He is studying to be a pastor. He's almost completed his schooling....I'm so excited for him to start this chapter of his life! My daughter has also just started Bible School. How proud can a mother be? I can't say that I had much to do with David becoming a pastor, for I feel that he had this calling on his life from the start. He began his devotion to God at age 15, he's now 27. Starting when he was 3 years old he couldn't stop asking about Jesus and would have me read him stories from the Bible over and over again. My daughter, Kelley, on the other hand....well, lets just say that I spent many days on bended knee ;) .....but see what persistent prayer does?!!

So, I began to experiment with this design, not really knowing if I could pull it off, so to speak. The background was a graphic that The Graphics Fairy had offered. I brought it in to Photoshop and I used the "burn" tool to make the edges much darker. I've downloaded a lot of fonts to my computer and it was fun going through them all to see what font worked with each name. I had a little space at the top, left, so I thought this fleur de lis would work well in that area....also from The Graphics Fairy.

And, so there it is. It really didn't take long to do and I liked the way it turned out. When I put it on a block it will be able to stand up on it's own. 

And when you stand praying, saying these names is a form of worship. Many times I do this when I pray and it helps me to get into the right frame of mind when I'm in prayer, that is, getting my thoughts purely on Jesus. And you know that the Bible says that "God inhabits the praises of his people".

Altered Art Tags

I've been having a lot of fun making, the above, hang tags and altering the rayon seam binding as well. I've always wanted to try my hand at it and this week I've been so inspired to do so.  

I imagine all scrapbookers have known this for a while, but you can find these plain tags, in bulk, at Staples, Office Depot and the like. I just found this out :) So, this is how I made them:

1.  I sprayed a walnut stain on the white card and sponged it on. When I spread it on with the foam sponge it just streaked, so I dabbed it all over at it gave it a nice soft look. I did the front & the back.

2.  I have the French Marketplace stamp set by Tim Holtz, so after the tags dried I stamped the card with the large Paris script in a light brown ~ which is only a couple of shades darker then the original stain. I stamped both the front and back with this.

3.  In the same color I stamped some flourishes on the top and 2 sides. And I took the stamp from that set with the windmill and partially stamped it off to the top, right.

4.  I took the Label stamp and used a chocolate colored ink pad to stamp the main part of one of the tags. The other tags I used Tim Holtz French Postcard stamp set.

5.  I, then, cut out these beautiful vintage rose prints...Catherine Klein, I believe, and adhered them to the front. These were on card stock, but if I make these again I think I'll print them on paper, instead.

 Below, is what I call the base card from which to start 'building' your design from. I am selling the set, above, in my Etsy shop and I am also selling the 'base' cards for customers that want to design their own tags.

Then for the hand dyed seam binding...

This is my favorite color seam binding. I've had this for so long that I've forgotten the actual name, but I'm calling it soft pink or baby pink. There are 3 piles of the ribbon, here...all coming from the same roll of ribbon. The one on the left is the original color, and has not been treated with any dye...just crinkled. The top, center ribbon is still mostly pink but has splashes of walnut dye to make it grungy looking, but still sweet and feminine ~ I'll call it sweet, shabby. The darker ribbon, I've treated with the same color walnut dye but blended it throughout and gave it a nice, soft super shabby look. 

I've embellished the tag, below, with the original pink and the dark pink.
