Some of the wonderful names of Jesus!

This is a 7" x 7" digital graphic intended to be printed and adhere to a block of wood. I have made many hand painted signs and when I began creating digital designs my cousin had suggested that I do this. I know that this is is popular with a lot of companies that manufacture home goods / decor.

The design, here, was inspired by a poster that my son has on his bedroom door. It has more of the many names of Jesus on it and I had been wanting to make David some decorations to put up in his apartment. I have a few ideas, all of them inspirations from the Bible. He is studying to be a pastor. He's almost completed his schooling....I'm so excited for him to start this chapter of his life! My daughter has also just started Bible School. How proud can a mother be? I can't say that I had much to do with David becoming a pastor, for I feel that he had this calling on his life from the start. He began his devotion to God at age 15, he's now 27. Starting when he was 3 years old he couldn't stop asking about Jesus and would have me read him stories from the Bible over and over again. My daughter, Kelley, on the other hand....well, lets just say that I spent many days on bended knee ;) .....but see what persistent prayer does?!!

So, I began to experiment with this design, not really knowing if I could pull it off, so to speak. The background was a graphic that The Graphics Fairy had offered. I brought it in to Photoshop and I used the "burn" tool to make the edges much darker. I've downloaded a lot of fonts to my computer and it was fun going through them all to see what font worked with each name. I had a little space at the top, left, so I thought this fleur de lis would work well in that area....also from The Graphics Fairy.

And, so there it is. It really didn't take long to do and I liked the way it turned out. When I put it on a block it will be able to stand up on it's own. 

And when you stand praying, saying these names is a form of worship. Many times I do this when I pray and it helps me to get into the right frame of mind when I'm in prayer, that is, getting my thoughts purely on Jesus. And you know that the Bible says that "God inhabits the praises of his people".

Altered Art Tags

I've been having a lot of fun making, the above, hang tags and altering the rayon seam binding as well. I've always wanted to try my hand at it and this week I've been so inspired to do so.  

I imagine all scrapbookers have known this for a while, but you can find these plain tags, in bulk, at Staples, Office Depot and the like. I just found this out :) So, this is how I made them:

1.  I sprayed a walnut stain on the white card and sponged it on. When I spread it on with the foam sponge it just streaked, so I dabbed it all over at it gave it a nice soft look. I did the front & the back.

2.  I have the French Marketplace stamp set by Tim Holtz, so after the tags dried I stamped the card with the large Paris script in a light brown ~ which is only a couple of shades darker then the original stain. I stamped both the front and back with this.

3.  In the same color I stamped some flourishes on the top and 2 sides. And I took the stamp from that set with the windmill and partially stamped it off to the top, right.

4.  I took the Label stamp and used a chocolate colored ink pad to stamp the main part of one of the tags. The other tags I used Tim Holtz French Postcard stamp set.

5.  I, then, cut out these beautiful vintage rose prints...Catherine Klein, I believe, and adhered them to the front. These were on card stock, but if I make these again I think I'll print them on paper, instead.

 Below, is what I call the base card from which to start 'building' your design from. I am selling the set, above, in my Etsy shop and I am also selling the 'base' cards for customers that want to design their own tags.

Then for the hand dyed seam binding...

This is my favorite color seam binding. I've had this for so long that I've forgotten the actual name, but I'm calling it soft pink or baby pink. There are 3 piles of the ribbon, here...all coming from the same roll of ribbon. The one on the left is the original color, and has not been treated with any dye...just crinkled. The top, center ribbon is still mostly pink but has splashes of walnut dye to make it grungy looking, but still sweet and feminine ~ I'll call it sweet, shabby. The darker ribbon, I've treated with the same color walnut dye but blended it throughout and gave it a nice, soft super shabby look. 

I've embellished the tag, below, with the original pink and the dark pink.

Hand Dyed Seam Binding

Oh, I'm really loving this seam binding. I've hand dyed it into these great cocoa colors. The darkest is super grungy and crinkled, as is, the lighter cocoa. I've achieved the 2 different shades, with the same dye, using different techniques. Then I've taken the cream color binding and hand stamped family & friends in a light walnut.

The bonus to this product, are the hang tags that I've also made into a shabby, grungy French / Paris theme. I've stained the entire tag, front and back, and then hand stamped a Paris scripted postcard note. After you've finished the seam binding, you'll be able to use these tags as part of your scrapbooking projects, gifts or whatever else you can think of.

New Product!

I'm really excited to offer the, ever popular, seam binding in my Etsy shop! New Altered Tag

I have a new category in my Etsy shop, titled, God is Good and have been creating a lot of altered art with this theme in mind. The background for this tag is a photo that I took while on vacation in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. In fact, I have another post about it where I showed these photos. 

This photo turned out so beautiful, and even with my cheap digital camera :) We were so close to the deer, I snapped this as we were driving down the dirt road that leads through Cade's Cove. The deer peeking around the tree is a real gem! It had such a serene feel about it that I thought I would make it even more celestial :) So I created more brightness coming down the left, top, and through to the center of the photo to illustrate God's light. I used Photoshop and if you're unfamiliar with how to do this, you use the 'dodge' tool. Then I brightened up the outer edges to make the forestry really pop, by using the 'burn' tool. 

The Bible verse seemed fitting, to me, as the picture depicts nature at it's finest. Then, I thought how nice it would be to show even more of God's beautiful creations and make it into a real, Garden of Eden. 

 

To create this, I brought in some graphics that were bright and vivid. I, of course, found all these lovely graphics from The Graphics Fairy. I just love the pink rose that Karen shared with us a few weeks ago and have already used it several times in my art work. Since I had all this brightness around the sides and bottom, the top left seemed too light behind the text, so, I brought in a crown (from The Graphics Fairy) and made it in grayscale and put it behind the text...this would be Jesus' crown, of course.

This Bible verse is referring to when Jesus comes back again. But I like to let it, also, remind me that even when we are praying for healing, whether it be a healing for our body, relationships, business or anything else we are praying for, Jesus even makes THOSE things new again. The God that created every single cell in our body can restore it to wholeness again, if it is weak. The God that places such importance on family can heal your marriage and make it new again. And if you're in financial difficulty, He can restore what the enemy has taken away. All you have to do is ask!
